Over the last couple of months, I have had the opportunity to use the ad-free version of Hulu. This is something that I have wanted to have for a while now and since I am in a spot financially where I can do so (for the most part), I have been taking advantage of that.

The shows that I watch the most on Hulu are Last Man Standing and How I Met Your Mother, and have also watched other TV shows like Rick and Morty and Malcolm in the Middle.

I am also excited that Hulu will be releasing a mini-series this year about John Green’s Looking for Alaska book, which is a book I read a few years ago. When it is released to the public, it will be my first original series on Hulu for me to watch.

What I like most about ad-free Hulu is the time you save from it. I no longer have to play two minutes of ads to watch my favorite shows. Instead, I just watch them as they should be; ad-free. However, I do understand that networks, streaming services, and shows have to have ads or else they’re not making as much money.

It is the time that you are saving that makes the extra money worth it. If I am getting ready for work or am watching dinner, sometimes I will turn my TV on to watch an episode of whatever I want. By not having to watch ads, I can watch my show, be entertained and still have time to get all of my stuff done, as well as watch my show in its entirety without any distractions or break-ins.

Another item that I like about this service is that I can have it billed to my iTunes account. This makes it easy to track it and my other subscriptions too.

Now, I am all for businesses putting ads on Hulu because of the young audience that Hulu has, but at the same time, I would not judge anyone for going the ad-free route. If you are in the budget for this, then you should spend the extra money and pursue it.

The only thing that the service could use is the ability to download episodes to your iPhone or iPad and then be able to watch them while you are on the road or on an airplane. However, since this is a feature that does not exist yet, I cannot judge it right now.

With all of that said, although this is a shorter review than others we have done, I am giving the ad-free version of Hulu 4/4 stars for its excellent and simple service. I would like to see the service get downloadable TV episodes and movies in the future, but for now and for what it does, it will work.

Hulu is currently available for $7.99 a month with ads and $11.99 a month without ads. College students that have a valid college email address can get the service through their Spotify Premium account for $4.99 a month. There is also the Hulu with Live TV live tv streaming service that costs $39.99 per month, with the on-demand content from Hulu’s catalog having ads in them.

Hulu is available on the iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, Mac and Apple TV.
